Kanana Concession

The Kanana Concession is a private wildlife concession in the southwestern Okavango Delta of Botswana, in the North-West District. It covers approximately 12,000 hectares of pristine Delta wilderness and is centered around the Xudum River system, with a mixture of permanent waterways, seasonal floodplains, lagoons, islands and dry woodland. The concession is known for its combination of water-based and land-based safari experiences.



The area supports a wide range of wildlife, including elephants, buffalo, hippos, lions, leopards, wild dogs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, impala and red lechwe. Birdlife is also exceptional because of the permanent and seasonal wetlands. During the dry season, wildlife becomes increasingly concentrated around the remaining permanent water sources, often producing excellent game-viewing opportunities.



A major advantage of the Kanana Concession is that it is a private concession, allowing a more flexible safari experience than many public protected areas. Depending on seasonal water levels, guests can enjoy morning and afternoon game drives, night drives, guided walking, mokoro excursions and boating. This combination makes Kanana particularly attractive for clients who want to experience both the traditional Big Five-style game drive safari and the waterways of the Okavango Delta.



The principal camp in the concession is Kanana Camp, which is accessed through Kanana Airstrip (FBKK). The concession can be combined very well with other Okavango destinations such as Moremi Game Reserve, Chitabe, Khwai and the central Delta.
